Kathryn M. Kee
served for eight years as the Assistant
Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in
the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD before retiring in May
of 2002. Her leadership and eye-ball to eye-ball focus
produced seventeen exemplary campuses and an Exemplary
District. Her work in TEKS Based Curriculum Assessment
was unique as she accepted only one result - success
for every student. Student success for all was
possible under her leadership. For twelve years prior
to this position she was as, Kathryn Harwell, Director
of Staff Development for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch
Independent School District. She also served as
Coordinator for Gifted Education for four years. In
thirty-five years in education, Kathy has taught
elementary and secondary reading, language arts,
social studies, and served as a Reading Specialist
during her 14 years in the classroom which began with
the federally funded Teacher Corps in 1970. She taught
in Louisiana, Missouri, and Oklahoma before coming to
Texas. Those who have taught or worked with Kathy
recognize her energetic, effective, creative, and
often unconventional approaches to teaching which have
brought her many leadership positions and honors both
as a teacher and administrator at the campus and
district levels. She was honored by the University of
NorthTexas Association of Administrators as
Outstanding Leader in Curriculum and Instruction.
She served as President and Executive Director of
the Texas Staff Development Council; the
organization that selected her as Outstanding Staff
Developer in Texas. Kathy served as national
chairperson for the National Staff Development Council
Conference held in Dallas in December of 1993 and
later was elected as Board of Trustees Member
and President of the National Staff Development
Council. She was also selected by the Texas
Principals Leadership Initiative as one of three
state trainers to lead Adaptive School Facilitation
Skills training for Texas Principals. Kathy has
served in an advisory capacity on numerous committees
and task forces for the Texas Education Agency
over two decades and is currently identified as a
Technical Assistance Provider to support schools
across the state.
Kathy has spent most of her career as a student of
Madeline Hunter, Art Costa, Robert Garmston, Carl
Glickman, David and Roger Johnson, Eric Jensen, Pat
Wolfe, Suzanne Bailey, David Ellis and Carolyn Downey
with expertise including Effective Teaching principles

Kathy’s philosophy is based on her commitment to
dignify and empower people by teaching the skills of
self-evaluation and reflection and a steadfast belief
that quality focused staff development is the secret
ingredient for every success in education. Kathy’s
passion is to coach leaders for highest performance
and is living the dream by participating with a
special national team of educators identified by NSDC
to dramatically improve student achievement via the
vehicle of Coaching. As co-founder and board member
for the non-profit company, “Coaching School
Results, Inc.” her goal is to train and coach
teacher leaders, principals, district leaders and
superintendents across this country in strategies for
powerful living and leading. (

team of educators in the creation and production of
entertaining electronic learning professional
development modules for the Region X Education
Service Center with the goal of job embedded
development that models and inspires joyful learning
and effective “best practice” teaching.
An avid Coke-Cola collector and movie fan, her
happiness is completed by her children, Jill, a
producer for Apple Computer’s iTunes Store in
Cupertino, Ca. and her son, Todd, a former teacher and
administrator who is today following his dream by
actively playing in his band, Flickerstick, as
drummer. Ronny, her soul mate completes her life with
his two children and four grandchildren. Kathy
believes, “Our life’s purpose is to leave a legacy
that makes a difference for our future – our
children,” and her work, today, joyfully serving as
a coach and consultant to principals, districts and
schools continues to make a difference in the
lives of educators and students.
